Persons suspected of terrorist activities. Search and seizure powers of the police. Private and family life.

Art. 8 ECHR
Ruling
1. Search and seizure powers that the UK police can carry out, pursuant to the Terrorist Act 2000, regarding people suspected of terrorism, are overly broad and leave public authorities an excessive margin of discretion.
2. The drafting of the Terrorism Act 2000 is too vague and does not circumscribe search and seizure powers of the police. Therefore, it cannot be said that these powers, which interfere with private and family life, are "in accordance with the law".
Notes
On 30 June 2010, the Grand Chamber refused a request for a further hearing by the UK Government.
